This project was built on a double lot replacing an existing ranch home. The final design included an open floor plan living/dining/kitchen area, a sun room opening to the back yard, and bedroom suites off of a private center hallway. The face of the house includes inspiration from mid-century ranch design elements and natural tones melding with the landscaping, all of which extends to the custom backyard shed. All interior cabinetry was designed by Gordon Architecture in collaboration with the homeowner. Interior images courtesy of Steve Domark of Pic Tour.
Currently under construction and scheduled to be complete in the spring of 2015, this project is primarily an exercise in connecting with the beautiful site. The siting of the house is on an escarpment with views into the woods on one side and a long view towards water on the opposite. The layout, design and siting of the house all work towards maximizing this connection to the outdoors. The home will include three bedroom suites with the master on the first floor of the two-story open plan structure with a walk-out basement. Similar to the sleeping porches of houses old, a viewing porch occupies a portion of the second floor with long views to the lake. Gordon Architecture collaborated with the homeowner on design of the interiors and custom cabinetry. Clean lines and a warm contemporary feel were requested by the homeowner. More pictures of the finished project are planned for later this year.
An existing mid-century ranch was given a new lease on life with this whole house remodel and addition. The existing sunken living room floor was raised and the front entry relocated to make room for a complete master suite. The roof/ceiling over the entry and stair was raised with multiple clerestory windows introducing light into the center of the home. An existing finished area adjacent to the garage was converted to a mudroom/laundry function. Finally, a compartmentalized existing layout was converted to an open plan with the kitchen/dining/living areas sharing a common area at the back of the home looking out at the backyard.
