Shawn’s architecture path began and continues to be driven by a keen interest and thorough enjoyment of the process of making things. After working in architecture offices through college summers and breaks, Shawn graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Architecture and a Minor in Philosophy in 1994. Prior to starting Gordon Architecture in 2005, his experience included a wide range of projects while working for other firms including: historic renovation work for a state fair grandstand, elementary and secondary school projects, smaller scaled commercial projects including a home loan banking center, a modern church addition, a "Globe Theater" inspired outdoor theater in a park, a historically sensitive and award winning bridge design for a historic residential neighborhood, as well as both traditional and contemporary custom new homes, custom home additions, and custom kitchen and bathroom remodels. The focus of his recent architectural design work in Wheaton and the Chicago suburbs has been residential due to the unique opportunity it provides for detailed attention to problem solving. Outside of the office, Shawn finds inspiration in giving time to charitable organizations such as Trout Unlimited or Reel Recovery; and unwinds by learning blues guitar and spending time outside on a bicycle, on skinny skis, or walking and wading through spring-fed streams in the midwest's Driftless Area.
